Getting Started
What is AI Teacher Labs?
โผAI Teacher Labs is a set of teaching tools that use AI to speed up the materials side of your work โ lesson plans, activities, quizzes, worksheets, study tools, report card comments, and more.
You tell us about your class, your topic, and what you want. We translate that into a detailed AI prompt. From there, you either run it through our built-in AI to get the finished material on the spot, or copy the prompt to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or wherever you prefer.
How is this different from using AI tools directly?
โผYou can absolutely go direct โ many teachers do. The difference is that getting consistently strong educational output from a general-purpose AI takes a lot of careful prompting. The structure of the request, the order of details, the formatting instructions, the differentiation guidance โ all of that affects the result.
Our forms are built around exactly those decisions. Each question maps to something that meaningfully changes what comes out: grade level, learning goals, differentiation approach, format, length. Behind the scenes, we package your answers into a detailed prompt that captures all of it. You get the benefit of careful prompt design without having to write the prompt yourself.
Do I need any AI experience to use AI Teacher Labs?
โผNo. Everything that requires knowing how AI works is handled on our side โ you bring the teaching judgment about what you need, and we handle the AI side of getting it done.
How do I build a prompt? What are my options?
โผMost tools give you two ways to create your AI prompt โ your answers carry over between them, so you can switch any time and pick whichever you find faster.
โ Chat with Ada ๐ฉโ๐ป
Ada walks through one question at a time, building your prompt as you answer. Good for working from a phone or tablet, or when you'd rather think through one decision at a time.
- One question at a time, conversational pace
- Skip any question that doesn't apply
- Ctrl+click any chip option to preview what it adds to your prompt
- Auto-saves as you go โ exit and return any time
โก Fill in the form
The full form lays out every option at once. Faster if you already know what you want and prefer to see all the choices side-by-side.
- All sections visible at once
- Every section is optional โ skip what you don't need
- Same Ctrl+click chip preview as Ada
- Live prompt preview updates as you make selections
Once your prompt is ready, you have two ways to use it:
- Create with Sage ๐งโโ๏ธ โ our built-in AI runs your prompt and produces the finished material on the page
- Copy to AI โ paste the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, or any other AI tool you prefer
A note on coverage: Most tools offer both Ada and the form, plus both Create with Sage and Copy to AI. A few tools are form-only by design โ pages like master schedules, timetables, and yearly plans have so many interlocking options that a step-by-step chat would slow you down rather than help. Our interactive tools โ like flashcard makers and similar tools that produce a working web page โ use Copy to AI only; for those you'll paste the prompt into the AI tool of your choice. Each page tells you which options apply.
What tools are available?
โผAI Teacher Labs includes lots of teaching tools:
- Lesson plans aligned to your curriculum
- Quizzes, tests, rubrics, and other assessments
- Reading materials for any grade level
- Report card comments
- Classroom activities and worksheets
- Study tools โ flashcards, study guides, glossaries, and more
- IEP and learner support documentation helpers
- And many more โ there's a tool for most things you'd want to make
Every tool has options for differentiation and clean, ready-to-print or ready-to-share formatting.
Features & Functionality
What is Sage and how do I use her?
โผSage ๐งโโ๏ธ is our built-in AI. Once your prompt is ready, click Create with Sage and she runs it on the page โ the finished lesson plan, activity, worksheet, or whatever you're building lands right there.
What Sage can do:
- Create โ turn your prompt into the finished material
- Find โ search for resources, ideas, and teaching materials
- Ask โ answer questions about teaching or get advice
- Chat โ brainstorm together, refine ideas, get feedback
A note on coverage: Most of our tools have Sage built in โ you'll see both Create with Sage and Copy to AI as options. Our interactive tools โ like flashcard makers and similar tools that produce a working web page โ use Copy to AI only; Sage isn't connected on those, so you'll paste the prompt into your preferred AI tool to generate the content. Each page tells you which option applies.
Can I save and reuse my prompts?
โผYes. Every prompt you build is saved to your library when you sign in. You can come back from any device, pull up a previous prompt, and tweak it for next year, the next class, or a new unit.
Most teachers end up with a personal collection of prompts that they refine over time โ a kind of growing template library specific to their teaching.
What is the Sage Chats page?
โผSage Chats ๐งโโ๏ธ is where all your conversations with Sage live. Every time you chat with Sage on any tool page โ whether you're creating a lesson plan, asking a teaching question, or refining a draft โ it's saved to your account so you can come back to it later.
On the Sage Chats page you can:
- Pick up any previous conversation right where you left off
- Pin your favorites so they're easy to find
- Browse recent chats across all your tools in one place
- Search by topic to find that conversation from three weeks ago
It works on any device when you're signed in, so you can start a chat on your laptop at school and finish it on your phone at home.
Can I customize the prompts I create?
โผYes โ you can edit the prompt before sending it off, and once you have your finished material (whether from Sage or another AI), you can edit that too. Nothing's locked.
Most teachers tweak both โ adjusting the prompt to match the way they teach, then making small edits to the output to fit a specific class.
Does it work for all grade levels and subjects?
โผYes โ kindergarten through high school, every subject. Just tell us the grade and subject when you start, and the tools adjust accordingly.
Can I create differentiated materials for diverse learners?
โผYes โ most tools have differentiation options built into the form. You can request multiple versions of the same material at different reading levels, with additional scaffolding, with ELL support, or with extension work for students who finish early.
When you ask for multiple levels, the tool generates a separate version for each one rather than trying to combine them into one document.
Time & Efficiency
How much time will this save me?
โผTeachers tell us they save 3-5 hours a week. Things that used to take an hour or more โ a detailed lesson plan, a full quiz, a set of differentiated worksheets โ come together in minutes.
Across a school year, that adds up to a meaningful amount of reclaimed time.
Will using AI replace my teaching expertise?
โผNo. The decisions that make a lesson work โ what to teach, how to sequence it, how to read the room and adapt โ are still yours to make. AI is just generating drafts based on your instructions.
If anything, this tends to free up time that used to go into formatting and rewriting, which is time you can spend on the planning and student-facing work that actually moves the needle.
Is the quality good enough to use directly?
โผOften, yes โ especially for things like vocabulary lists, practice problems, reading passages, and short worksheets. Many teachers use what they get with little to no editing.
For larger materials like full lesson plans or unit plans, you'll usually want to add your own classroom touches. Either way, you're starting from a solid draft rather than a blank page.
Privacy & Ethics
How do you protect student privacy?
โผOur forms never ask for student names, IDs, or any other identifying information โ you work with grade levels, topics, and learning goals.
If a name does end up in a free-text field, the prompts we generate include a built-in instruction asking the AI to use initials or generic references instead. Anything you save stays in your private account; we don't share your materials and don't use them to train AI.
Who owns the materials I create?
โผYou do. Anything you create is yours โ download it, edit it, share it with colleagues, use it however you want.
We hold onto a copy in your account so you can come back to it later, but it's all yours.
Should I tell my principal or district I'm using AI?
โผThat's your call, and it depends on your district's stance. Many districts now have clear policies on AI use โ some encourage it, some have specific guidelines, some are still figuring it out.
If you do want to discuss it with admin, we can help: we don't ask for student data, we don't share or train on your materials, and the prompts include a built-in privacy reminder. Those are the points administrators usually want to know about.
If admin asks which AI we use: Sage is powered by Claude, a frontier AI model built by Anthropic, a US-based AI safety lab. We can swap or upgrade the underlying model over time as the technology improves.

Some of the more advanced features may sit behind a subscription over time as we add them. Either way, the core teaching tools will stay affordable and the pricing transparent.
